Bernadette Peters (born Bernadette Lazzara on February 28, 1948) is an American actor, singer, and writer of children's books born in Ozone Park Queens New York . Her professional career spans over five decades and includes musical theatre, television concert performances, solo shows, as well as recording. Her name is one of the most well-known artists. She was nominated to win seven Tony Awards (winning two), she also won the award of eight Drama Desk Awards. Peters has been awarded Grammy Awards for four of her Broadway cast albums. Peters started her career on stage when she was a child, and then at the age of a teenager in 1960s. In the 1970s she started acting in movies and television. The early work she did, such as her roles as a character on The Muppet Show The Carol Burnett Show as well as different television productions and characters in films such as Silent Movie The Jerk Pennies from Heaven received a lot of praise. In the 80s, her return to theater made her one of the most well-known Broadway actors for over three years. The singer has also released a variety of single albums, cast albums and singles. She performs in her own concerts on a regular basis. Peters also continues to act in films and on television and has been recognized for her work with 3 Emmy Awards and three Golden Globe Awards which she has won once.
